The Box World

The Woodheads began as a portrait series of friends. It then became a series of sad self portraits, as they were mutilated, dried, and carved. The new series is a two part that depicts my friends, and another that depicts the darker side of society that I have learned to avoid. This is the darker one. The box world is filled with a square headed, blind, armless, mold of creatures that are trapped inside of another box. Some grow eyes, and they always seem to creep up toward the light, if not just to see what’s outside.

Art in Real Time – Artist Residency

This video shows a lot of things including two deceased friends. One is a man, who went by the name of Kodiak, and one was my baby kitty Geri. Geri the Magical Cat. The Artist Residency was inside of an old warehouse that had done repairs and begun renting out units. We were right behind a well known and high traffic tavern, Pisgah Brewery. They have lots of big concerts out back of their venue, and we had arts and entertainment for those wondering back our way. We projected “movie night” on Saturdays that was really fun to participate in. I created 3 rocking chairs for the chamber of commerce in the “Little Town that Rocks” displayed my van as i painted the design on the side of the first Adventuring Art Vanagon (#vanlife) and created a large installation painting for the brewery. Thanks again Eddie, you are a very good friend. Art in Real Time’s current location is in Nashville! Catch many different artistic opportunities to participate in the creative process as they move across the country! The intention of this video is to reflect how I felt while at this residency, it is not intended to sell art, […]

These are the adventures of the Cat Man. A character that starts as an idiot living in a dark alley and evolves into a master of his domain, the concrete jungle. This is a personal journey, and should you meet him personally, you might think he has toxoplasmosis and simply is becoming one himself.

New Paintings!! Adventuring Art 2018!

There are many new paintings this year! I am hoping to produce enough of them at once that I can actually fill a wall at a venue or two! Art in Real Time is always on the radar, as well as other small venues along the way! I am still finishing many of them but here is a preview of a few that are finished now! Two of these are sold already but many more to come! These are acrylic paintings on canvas. Acrylic art, 16×20 inches. Adventuring Art is a project by David Brothers. Short films are also in the works, while these paintings are my most important priority. I spend countless hours in wildlife areas drawing different understandings from each place I travel to.

Art Tour 2018 (New)

Since 2013, once a year, I have gone on “Art Tour” The spring time, when everyone has their tax return money, is the best time to tour with your art. Students are about to graduate and they are walking the towns with their parents, everyone comes out and about to enjoy the nice weather, Spring is it and memorial day weekend gets crazy busy, then it’s time for summer time. This year I toured California but without any finished originals. I thought, I’d just deliver a couple of pieces of art, and hang out at some of my favorite national forest spots in between for some quality alone time. Well California, you win. I’m not coming back for a while, not until you straiten up your act and remember how you got here in the first place. There is a new lower class cleansing happening in California, the rich people are sick and tired of the mentally ill crowding their public areas, and they are flushing them out or locking them up. I am writing this from frustration, as I’ve just discovered, after many other spots had been taken away by the governments, that camping is no longer allowed at […]

Trash Mandala (New)

This is a preview of our newest form of recycled art! These trash mandala were created from trash collected at BLM campsites in northern California and southern Oregon! Cigarette butts, soda cans, candy wrappers, everything went onto the canvas in some small way creating two large works of art. The trash was glued down and sealed in polyurethane forever. This is just a small segment of a much larger project. I have multiple monthly programs to fund my trash cleanups on my Patreon page!

The Totem Pole (2011)

During the spring and summer of 2011 I embarked The Midwest Adventure. I spent time much of this time in my hometown of Quincy IL, and in Hannibal MO, the home of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. I rested in these places between adventures and took the time to carve a totem pole from an oak tree. The animals on this oak tree represent “spirit animals” that approached me at times during The Southwest Adventure. These animals revealed themselves to me exactly when I needed them to, showing me things, and helping me to interpret my own subconscious and access my true intuition.

The Northwest Adventure (2012)

September 24th 2012 A fair winter is coming. One year ago the cold chased me down the east coast to a mystical forest. A year before that I bound for the west in a couple of vehicles and soon my own two feet.I explored the California coast and just thought to myself.. I need a bike. The cats led me here, the cats led me there, the cats led me just about everywhere.. I’ve met people since then, cat people. I’ve met some people that proved worth every minute of our short lived time together. I even travelled the entire country with cat people and one in particular that took me all the way to the west coast once again.. with a bike. People come and people go, people that really care about you show their beautiful colors. The others, well they hide them, under a tone of grey we see time and time again.

Thanksgiving in the Desert (2010)

I will never forget that day in the desert with ole Wild Bill. A tale of giving. On the final Thursday of November 2010, I was stuck in the deserts of southern California. I still had the Jeep and was living on BLM land south of Joshua Tree National Park. I’d made a friend over the month or so I had lived out there, he was a man in his 50s named Bill. It was the end of the month. I got paid on Fridays and had used up the rest of my funds on.. whatever. Good ole Bill was a veteran and was awaiting his monthly installment coming at the beginning of December. We began the day with nothing. I awoke early that morning to Bill’s van pulling onto my patch of land just south of the desert mountains where they dip off into the coachella valley just before dropping off of the high land plateaus. We were “desert rats.” Before I could sit up Bill had jumped out of his van and was knocking on the Jeep. “Hey man, you got any cigerettes? I’ll make coffee!” We went back to his camp in the van, I had a […]

The Appalachians (2011)

I have arrived in the Appalachians! After days of train and bus riding, I’m here! In Asheville North Carolina. I took the Illinois Zephyr to Chicago, laid over for like 8 hours wandering the streets in the cold rain, took the Cardinal to Charleston West Virginia, and stayed with a couchsurfing.org friend. She was great! West Virginia must be the cool one cuz this was a very artsy “beat” town! Took the 8:20 AM all over the freakin united states until finally one of the places had a bus that went to Asheville! The plus side to this was that the buses seemed to all go through the mountains one way or another. We climbed and descended probably 4 times before I finally got here! The security guard here has done the Appalachian Trail all the way through twice! This hostel is amazing! So far I’ve eaten quail egg, bamboo shoot, string mushroom, tofu, and cajun boiled peanuts! We are off to an amazing start! Bring on the fried chicken and collard greens!! I was greeted by the city on Twitter, and Swiss Army mentioned my adventure seeing as that pack is pretty much all I packed. “Oh it’s got everything in there! […]

The Coming Winter (2011)

The site is launched, the totem pole is finished, (gettin photo’d soon!) I’m almost finished with my paintings, I’m training my legs, I got to see alllmooostt everyone, and now it’s time to leave the Midwest. I am yet to get the Adventure Mobile, but I’m working on it! I am headed to the top of the Appalachian Mountains before I get anything, so I don’t have to worry about making it over! My experience with the automobiles I destroyed in the Southwest has taught me I might just be better off financially without one. It is time. I’m not sure what’s out there this time, I’m not going for inspiration for any old projects this time, I’m not really out seeking anything, but maybe a place to call home for a while, oh and food. I honestly don’t know what the hell I’m doing. I just know there’s more to do, and more to learn. The creatures keep showing me things so I gotta keep following them. I’m really anxious to see the Appalachians again, and to visit Topsail Island, a place, not exactly super special, but special to me. I may even get to care for some sea turtles!! There’s […]
